WIN IT ALL

by Enrico Fagiani and Francesco Scarfone

WIN IT ALL is the installation of the @winjpeg gaming system, an instant lottery based on scratchable tickets whose prizes consist of visual content from the Cloud galley of one of the creators’ smartphones.

Originally not intended for sharing, these prizes – redeemable by interacting with the Telegram bot @winjpeg – set the winner to a hybrid viewing mode, in which the awareness of spontaneous image-making intersects with the potential disclosure of the author’s behavioral data.

By mimicking the same gamification and obfuscation mechanisms deployed by big tech companies like Google to mask the behavioral surplus mining, the lottery provides lucky players with the opportunity to become active data collectors and access power exclusively in the hands of commercial surveillance agents.

The installation, therefore, aims to engage participants in an aesthetic experiment, transforming the act of viewing private images into an act of awareness towards the imperatives of behavioral data extraction at the heart of surveillance capitalism.
